Directors Identification Number (DIN) is an eight-digit numeric Number allotted by the Central Government to every director with lifetime validity and regulated under the Companies (Directors Identification Number) Rule, 2006.

3 Types of Changes under Director Identification Number

Application

1. Spice Form: Under this Form an application for allotment of DINs to the proposed first Directors in respect of new companies shall be made and no separate form is required to be filed. This form of DIN application is only applicable if the proposed director of the new company was not a Director in any previous company and is not holding any previous DIN.

The attachment to Spice Form for DIN allotment are:

  1. Copy of self attested PAN Card
  2. Self attested proof of Identity (Driving Licence/Passport/Voter Id Card)
  3. Self attested proof of Address (Copy of Bank statement not more than 2 months old/copy of passbook/utility bill not more than 2 months old/copy of passbook/utility bill)

2. Form DIR 3: Under this form any person intending to become a director in an existing company shall have to make an application for allotment of DIN.

The attachment to Form DIR 3 for DIN allotment are:

  1. Passport size color photograph
  2. Copy of self attested PAN Card
  3. Self attested proof of Identity (Driving Licence/Passport/Voter Id Card)
  4. Self attested proof of Address (Copy of Bank statement not more than 2 months old/copy of passbook/utility bill not more than 2 months old/copy of passbook/utility bill)

Modification of DIN

3. Form DIR 6: Under this form, any changes in the particulars of directors such as a change in name, address, registered mobile number, etc shall be filed.

The attachment to Form DIR 6 are (All the documents must be certified by practicing CA/CS/CMA:

  1. Copy of self attested PAN Card
  2. Any documentary proof in support of change being proposed.

Surrender of DIN

4. Form DIR 5: Under this form, the director can make an application for the surrender of its existing DIN due to any of the following reasons:

  1. DIN is not in use as the applicant is not a Director in any existing Company and is not willing to join further any Company in the future.
  2. On the death of the concerned person
  3. Duplicate DIN is issued
  4. The person holding DIN is declared of unsound mind
  5. If DIN was obtained by any unfair means

Attachment to Form DIR 5 are:

  1. Passport size color photograph
  2. Copy of self attested PAN Card
  3. Self attested proof of Identity (Driving Licence/Passport/Voter Id Card)
  4. Self attested proof of Address (Copy of Bank statement, not more than 2 months old/copy of passbook/utility bill not more than 2 months old/copy of passbook/utility bill)
